About

I’m Delci, aka *May, mum to 2 very lovely children, Mr E and Ms Z.

I live in a tiny country call Singapore, and I’m part SAHM (Stay-At-Home-Mum) part WAHM (Work-At-Home-Mum) part WOHM (Work-Outside-Home-Mum)!!!!  Well, you see, as a SAHM, I also give tuition outside as well as from my home. 😉  As a mum at home, besides looking into the children’s daily needs, I also homeschool them.  As a tutor, I teaches the Primary levels (ie, age 7 to 12 yo).

This blog is suppose to be a little something that records my On-Job-Training as a mum, the ups, and downs, plus a little of something that I just wanna yak about.

My main aim for this blog:

  • Encouragement for Christians – firstly, I’m far from being holy, I’m not a pastor, leader in church, or pastor’s wife.  I’m just a plain ordinary child of God living in this challenging world.  Just hope that through my victories and failures, fellow Christians can be encouraged to run this race in God’s kingdom till the finishing line, VICTORIAS!
  • Journal on my kiddos – human’s mind is really minute.  We forget easily.  I want to blog down the details of my children’s growth so that when they are grown ups, they will be able to see the process of their growth though this blog

A little side note…

In this blog, especially after my 1 year blog-break, I try my best to be as honest as I can.  But somehow, after reading my blogs (this and my homeschool blog), many people still come and tell me saying “You are a great mum.  You are doing a good job with your children.”

Dear friends, I AM REALLY NOT A GREAT MUM. You will know when you get to know me deeper, better, and, especially when you live with me :P. Or ask my live-in domestic helper :P, and you will know my true-color.

What kind of person am I? I am an impatient person, quick-tempered, no natural liking for children, procrastinate a lot, ill discipline, judgemental, etc 😛 See, PLENTY of weaknesses.

BUT, precisely due to all my weaknesses, my total reliance is really upon God. Like he said in His Bible

“His strength is made prefect in our weakness.”

With a character like mine, it is actually very hard to be a good parent, and it is my constant struggle to be a better mum.  But I know that I can only do so because God is my helper, my strength, my guide.

I have been thinking how to reply to people who comes to me saying “You are a great mum.”, the answer comes to my mind after I nearly complete this entry, and it is:::

“I’m an ordinary, normal city mum, but I have a BIG God.” 🙂

God Bless…

* Many folks find my Christian name hard to remember and pronounce, that spells my recent common use of my Chinese name

Hi Delci,
you may not remember me, but we had exchanged emails before, all from asiaparents over the past 1-2 yrs, on my miscarry, on my crazy parentling style with my girls; at mim too…. >>Hugs<<

I understand fully what you mean when ppls come up and say,you are agreat mum.. I get that often too but in my heart, I always felt I can do so much more. Many times, others look at the general “results” of what they see and hear, but us, living in the grime and the “messiness” of our own lives makes us feel whether we should just give oursleves a pat on our back or what.

I am a SAHM mum to girls Cl and Gl at 6yrs and 20mths. Maidless and have cut down from being a full-time piano teacher at home(WAHM) to a part-time piano teacher at home now. I have gone thru 4 maids and decided no more and depend on wkly domestic help. At the same time, I want to achieve what all SAHM are doing. To give their children the best, be the best HOUSEwife,Wife,MOther,as well as to nurture and introduce to them what it is to know God and Jesus.

Am battling DAILY how to cope with everything. ALthough my husband doesn’t work mostly overseas like yours, mine is out night-time and all weekends and most days too. I virtually run the house on my own and yet have to maintain a clean and neat home, given the expectations of husband…

So, I sway from being a crazy mum, a maid, a teacher, a wife. Never know how I manage, butI know my strength comes from God and from coffee… I guess we share many things in common too. I particulary understand when you say, you are down but are okay at your recent thread. It is this battle that we fight within ourselves, that even though we know we are never tested beyond what we can bear, we wished we had more control in our lives.
Oh yes, in case you want to know anything more abt piano(saw recent threads in AP) ,can ask me, even though I am part-timing, I can help answer some qns, i’ve been a teacher for many yrs. Just hoping to goback in full-time after kids grow up.
Just a long sharing, coz don’t know how to private email you.smiles.

>> Hi Pauline, Thanks for leaving a comment. Will be replying you in pte 😉

Hi Shaktii,

I started tutoring when my sister asked me to help her monitor her children’s studies. That was how I started. She did pay me but beginner tutor rate.
So if you want to start tutoring, without experience and without any track record, you will probably need to start from agencies and can’t charge high, and I doubt people will want to go your place, cause no track record.
After my success with first my nephew, I started to sound out among friends that I’m tutoring, that’s where friends helped.
My students are all referred to me by friends and my neighbourhood,, mainly through my network. None through agency. I can’t take many students, so I only teach on Fridays and Saturdays. Weekdays are reserved for my children.
All the best 🙂
