Been bugging Dan to do something about my old PC. Its CD writer is not working, super slow, only 20G harddisk space, and it ALWAYS re-boot, plus many many other problems. He been buying me handphone after handphone, when what I really want is a Notebook. Sigh… My last words to him on this: “Are you going to help me on my PC? If not I gonna do my own purchase.” Well… I did my own purchase…
If its a bad buy, blame it on him.
Just happened that Funan has a notebook fair – it always do
. But at least I don’t have to walk the entire building for the best deal. So here it is, with extremely limited budget, I settled for:
NEC Versa S1200-2101DRC

-
AMD Turion 64×2 TL-62 2.1GHZ
-
2GB DDR2 RAM
-
120GB
-
13.3″ WXGA SSV TFT Display
-
ATI Radeon Xpress 1150 (128MB)
-
DVD Double Layer Drive
-
Built-in Wireless LAN (802.1 b/g)
-
Integrated Bluetooth v2.0
-
4-IN-1 Card Reader
-
Windows Vista Home Basic
-
1 Year Local On-Site International Warranty
-
Plus a few other freebies like mouse, external webcam, carrying case, bluetooth headset @ $10 (had ext harddisk at $10 too, but out of stock
, and a lucky dip that got me a $10 taka voucher
All these for $899 (with GST $961.93)
The bad: the screen size. But with limited budget, I really have not much of a choice. Though the harddisk space is only 120GB, I figured that I can get an external HDD when needed - which after considering the cost of an external HDD, it is still ok.
The good: 2.1GHz processor and 2GB RAM. At this price, most other notebooks only come in at most 1.8GHZ (also AMD) and only 1GB RAM.
After thought: I have not shopped for a PC or notebook for years. The last thing I know about notebook price was that it cost at least $2k to get one. Now, not difficult to get it at under $1k!
BTW, remember my AIO Epson CX5500 printer?: This is a very bad buy. Avoid it by hook or crook! Why?
- Flimsy printer’s mechanism: Everytime I open up here and there, it felt as if the printer gonna break part.
- Terrible draft printing: With my old HP AIO printers, the draft mode is still pretty decently visible.
- Super Slow Speed: The draft mode is nearly invisible. So I have to resort to printing at normal mode. Even at high speed option, Epson’s AIO is still unbearable. It is SUPER SLOW. Even my older model HP AIO beats this printer hands down!
Hopefully my NEC notebook will not be a lousy buy like the Epson printer. So far so good. Already successfully transferred all my data from my old PC to here. And this current post is done on the new notebook.
PS: My hubby is a techie guy, so he knows all these PC stuffs very well, and have been the one who assemble my PC for me. This is why I rely so much on him where this is concern.
