Today, in front of his own child, someone painted a very passive picture of having children. I was so upset that such thing is mentioned in front of the child that I quickly rebut him with all the good things that children have done to me.
Yes, having children mean that many things in our life will be changed and we probably can’t do many things that we want. But, take a closer look, and one will see that having children can make a person better, ie, when one look at it positively.
So why is having children good for me?
10 things children teach me (not in any order):-
- patience – my parents and sis know that I am a very impatient person. But being parent certainly forced me to learn to be patient. (In my case, there are still more room for improvements
) - unconditional love – need I say more about this?
- perseverance – as parents, we can’t just quit. The moment the child is borned, no matter how difficult, tiring or even inconvenient, we have to walk this journey till the end.
- to be thankful
- to be selfless – I can’t just make decision base on my own wants.
- dependence on God – there is really this much that we can teach our children, but the rest is really His grace and protection over them.
- time-management – if I don’t manage my time well, the children will take up all of my time.
- to be tidy – I was never a neat person and was never someone who bothers about cleanliness. Now, I’m a clean and neat freak (except for my own desk which is ever messy)
- nutrition and health – I have to know a little about nutrition so as to feed them well right
On health and medical matters, I am certainly more aware of it than before. - to be thrifty and careful about spending - I was super spendthrift, but now that I’m a SAHM, I have learnt to be more thrifty.
To my 2 children - EZ: Thank you for teaching me to be a better person in this world
