It is easier to fast from food :P

20 02 2008

Last Sunday, Ps Khong preached a very emotional sermon titled “The King And I – A Divine Romance” base on Psalm 45.  The sermon basically call us back into intimacy with God.  In line with it, Ps Khong called and challenge the church for a 40 days fast.  But fasting from food is not it!  He challenged us to also fast from TV and gaming, and everyday, spend 1 hour with the Lord.

As pastor preach, I can feel his anger over how worldly entertainment has drawn the church away from God.  When comes to watching our favorite TV drama, entertainment program, or the fun we have when playing Xbox, PSP, and what have you, 1 hour fly pass so easily.  But when come to spending 1 hour with God, sigh, every minute seems to be a drag.

I’m not speaking from a position of victory over this area, but from one, who also struggles big time with spending longer than 20mins with Him.

Fasting from food is not new, and prior to this call, I have actually started fasting for something else.  So the fast from food is still manageable.

But, fasting from TV is starting to be a little difficult! :P Actually, I don’t watch a lot of TV programmes, probably about 4 hours in a week.  But, it is already so so so difficult!  Fasting from food seems easier :P   I wonder how are those who play a lot of games coping.

But I truely appreciate this call.  It is more than fasting, and it is a matter of setting our piriority right with God. Have been waking up earlier this last 2 days to spend my first hour with God in the morning.  Still struggling, but I’m sure the breakthrough will come soon.  And I do hope that even after the 40 days fast, the 1 hour with God everyday will become a habit that is hard to kill.

To all FCBC members, may you draw closer to our Heavenly Father as you fast and spend 1 hour with Him every day.
