My new Dyson Vacuum Cleaner

After working very hard for my household during the last 5 years, my Osim Mermaid vacuum cleaner finally died 2 nights.

In my household, we can go without washing machine, we can go without domestic helper, BUT, with allergies to dust, dustmite, and what have you, we cannot ’survive’ without a vacuum cleaner.  Without proper vacuuming, within a few days, my nose will go nuts.  In fact, I can’t stay away from home for too long, my nose will act up.  Which spells why I am in such a hurry to get a replacement.

The Initial Choices

• Karcher DS5500  (Slightly over $700)
• Rainbow ($2.5+k)

I need a good vacuum cleaner to handle the allergy problem in my household.  I dislike vacuum bags technology.  So I am left with water-filter. 

Karcher is more afforable than Rainbow which is beyond my budget and it is suppose to purify air by 99.99%!  But I’m a little put off by its bulkiness. 

Didn’t know about Dyson till I read some recommendations in the AsiaParents forum.

Why Dyson?

• Testimonials from the other allergy prone families who used it are good.  It is also approved by the British Allergy Foundation.
• Compared to Karcher and my old Osim Mermaid, the Dyson DC20 is super light!  Plus no water filter, no bags.
• Basically, no addition maintenance cost for the next 5 years! – Although it is slightly higher cost compared to Karcher, but with its lifetime HEPA screen, 5 instead of the typical 2 years waranty, I figured that it is worth the price different. 
• It is super compact!  After vacuuming, the whole gadget can be kept and it is what you see in the picture above.  No more long tubes or hose to figure out where to keep.  Simply PERFECT!

With regular vacuuming of our beddings (weekly) and house (alternate day) using our Osim Mermaid, I am shock to see so much dirt still!
